Cliffhanger

The Cliffhanger is an SDC Windstorm roller coaster located at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It sits at an altitude of over 7,000 feet on the side of Iron Mountain. From the ride’s pinnacle, riders can see the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon 1,450 feet below!

Apollo was contracted to provide engineering and design to upgrade this classic coaster with new controls and eddy current braking which enhances the rider experience.

Apollo was contracted to design and engineer a significant system refit and upgrade for the mechanical, structural, and ride control systems of this ride. Because the OEM was no longer in business, the original plans were not available for reference. Our team visited the site, climbed on the ride system, and gathered extensive physical measurements and operations data. Armed with this information, we completed extensive reverse engineering and design resulting in several drawings and analyses. This effort prompted structural updates, vehicle component replacements, wheels and restraints redesign and upgrade, and a complete control system overhaul. These updates will allow this ride to continue thrilling passengers long into the future.
